Has anyone done the windman oly?

In/around San Luis Rsvr.?

I’m looking at doing this as an end of season effort and would like to hear what people think about it.

Thanks,
Sean

My friend did a sprint there in the spring-- very windy but a decent course otherwise. I believe most of the running was on trails.

Is this still happening? This race didn’t get very good reviews last year.

Buyer beware!

This race might be an absolute joke. Let me summarize my findings after I registered for the spring race.

From the list of entrants in the previous two races, NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON registered for the spring race.

The run course was wildly short one year and the swim was way short the next.

There were too few volunteers, too few course markers, no water on the course, the bike racks didn’t hold up the bikes, race numbers were written by hand, no chip timing, no finish times, no awards on day of race.

The overall winners (male & female) were DSQ’ed after the race because the RD wouldn’t refund the charge for mailing their entry packets even though the entry packets were never mailed.

After finding out all of this I emailed the RD and simply asked him if there would be changes to make the race better. He responded venomously, that if I didn’t trust him then I shouldn’t have registered (I wouldn’t have had I known) and that I take a partial refund immediately or risk being barred from participation! WTF! I was just asking if changes were planned to make the race better. A 12 minute Oly swim that was changed from 1 lap to 2 laps during the swim after the leaders exited in 6 minutes!!! C’mon! Needless to say I tossed $60 out the window (for my wife and I) and never did the race.

Maybe things did improve. If so why didn’t the RD just tell me his plans and give me some type of reassurance. I did consider going to the race site, not far from my house, just to watch the cluster-fuck this spring, but decide to train instead.

Oh, I don’t think there has been more than 40 entrants for the Oly in any of the previous 3 races.

Aren’t you glad you asked?

Whoa!

Thanks for the heads up. Unless someone chimes in otherwise, sounds like I’ll be avoiding this one.

I guess my season will end at the sentinel, no worries.

Thanks,
Sean
