Just wondering if anyone has an opinion about the Roch Frey/Paul Huddle February training camp in San Diego? Has anyone gone? What did you think of it? Would you recommend it? What did you like/dislike? Any input would be much appreciated.
I have helped work at the SD camp for the last few years, and have learned a huge amount from these guys. Its quite fun, and very educational. great time of year here for training as well. I definitly recommend it.
I attended the IMCDA camp with Roch, Heather, Jimmy Riccitello, Sian Welch and Michael Collins last year. I had a great time and thought their input was very beneficial. With respect to the San Diego camp, I asked them about it and they explained that it was very technique/drill intensive and that there wasn’t a whole lot of long/hard workouts.
Jimmy was considering a winter bike camp in Tucson, but I have not heard anything about it. I even emailed him regarding the same thing and never heard back from him.
I’ve done their IMAZ camp (the first year of IMAZ) and their IMWI this past July. Both great. Plus its a chance to preride the race courses with lots of support. They’ll go over what makes that particular course challenging, etc.
I thought the lecture sessions would be a bit redundant the second time around but I managed to pick up stuff I missed the first time and was very glad I attended them all again. Paula’s Going Mental lecture is really, really good and I learn something every time I hear it.
I attended their Lake Placid camp. It was a lot of fun and good training and good tri advise. I highly reccommend it. They have probably the most experience in IM racing and coaching but more importantly are very nice people who make sure everyone has a fun time.
I have been to the Florida and Wisconsin camps and they are a fantastic experience. Expensive but worth it to get to get an edge on the learning curve of Ironman. Roch and Huddle are a hoot!! PNF is super cool and the rest of the staff is awesome and very helpful. I think the most underated part of the IM specific camps is the local course knowledge that really helps come race week and race day. Highly recommend it!!!
