Hard seats, chaffing, bike shorts, hairy butt

ok. i have noticed that on any ride i do over 3 hours that i get REALLY sore where i am sitting on my seat. this seat is hard, came with my new bike, cervelo soloist team. seems to be much more uncomfortable for longer rides than my last bike. anyway i sometimes get to a point where i have to stand just to give my butt a break. chaffing is so bad i have these semi vertical things that almost look like cuts, under the bottom of my buttocks.anyway could this also be related to my hairy butt?

Sounds like you need some lube, dude. try some body glide/chamois butter or something along those lines. If all else fails you could try to dehair the offending area and see if it goes away

At least you didn’t include pics. Thanks. No, really. Thanks.

If it were me, I’d try a thicker pad in the shorts (chamois? Is that what it’s called?). If that didn’t “fixit”, I’d try a different seat.

Is this one of those questions where you’re really asking if it is okay if you shave your butt? (<–joke) No, don’t do it. Unless your arse hairs are like guitar strings, I wouldn’t see how they could be involved.

It makes me laugh knowing that if I typed the words “lube” and “hairy butt” into the search bar I would get a response…this thread. HAHA, great!!!

yeah i am thinking lube too. but i have never needed to use this in past. the pad in these particular shorts (biemme ones) is pretty thick.

It takes time for your undercarriage to adjust to a new saddle. Give it some time. I second the lube suggestion.

You are going commando, right?

Bike saddles are a very individual thing as in - what works for you may not work for me, etc…

As long as you’re not getting any numbness, it could be worse. I get a sore butt on long rides if I take a month off from riding long, so I try to get out once a week for 3+ hours no matter what. (That’s in addition to leading 3 spin classes every week). That said, I went through several saddles before finding the Terry Fly, which was pretty comfortable, and finally the Aspide Triathlon, which I love.

Still hurts at mile 80 if I haven’t been riding long…

course
.

Maybe it’s the shorts. I’m not particularly enamoured with my Biemme shorts.

J

If your not use to long rides you need break-in your seat & ass , like a mitt , new pair of boots , cast iron skillet . Keep your seat flat to nose down slightly, Some of the cheap gell pad shorts are great .

I wear another thin pair of shorts under my bike shorts.I lube them up with Bag Balm ( Industrial cow Tit lube, for milking machines ) you can get it at walgreens drug store . Square green tin. I just smile at 40 miles and MOOOOOO.

They also have the hair remover , in 10 minutes your smooth assed .

they, being my shorts, were awesome when i was using them on my old bike tho. i am gonna try the seat tilted down slightly thing…

i’m also getting me some lube.

Chamois butter

Flatter seat - possibly try a new seat - I think Lube maybe a little too slippery
.

LOL, reminds me of the quote from Me, Myself, and Irene, made by Rhode Island state patrolman Charlie after being questioned if his rear-end is sore after riding for a long time, “Over the years, my a** has taken a pounding”.

put your old seat on your new bike!

You bought a soloist? Cool!

Details please…
