Happy birthday, Charles

Charles Darwin, born 200 years ago today. His book On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life was published 150 years ago this November.

As I briefly watched Olberman last night, I was struck by the thought that Darwin might have been wrong.

Olberman aside, your joke shows you don’t understand evolution.

Strictly a joke, although your response makes me believe that natural selection is in process even as we type.

.

Darwin? is that the clown who spent his life messing with bugs? don’t waste your time, read the first 40 pages of Genesis and you’ll learn everything that you need to know.

watching olberman is a sign that you have been left behind in the evolution process, even it it was only briefly…

The story of Darwin and his voyage on the HMS Beagle is incredible reading. The pressure and ridicule he faced to bring his theories to light shows that he was a man of incredible character.

He took some 20 years to write Origin of Species; he really wanted to be able to address challenges.

There have been some great documentaries about Darwin on TV this week explaining why he waited 25 years to publish his book.

Also a great Nova on the trial of Intelligent Design that explains in plain English what a “Scientific Theory” is (most non-scientists don’t understand the scientific term and how much evidence is required for a Theory).

I’ll admit that I haven’t read *On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection *but I subscribe the the theory of evolution.

My understanding of the book is that it is not only an essay on his theory but also a chronicle of his journeys. Correct me if I’m wrong there.

Thus, it is puzzling to me that this book is in the fictional section of a chain book store. I could understand this categorization if it was at a local Christian book store. How can a documentary be considered fiction?

That’s bizarre to be there. Someone is playing games, methinks. His earlier book Voyage of the Beagle is, I think the chronicle of his journey on the Beagle.

That is my take. Probably shelved by a manager who disagrees with Darwin.

My guess would be a personal bias of the store manager. It is in the science section of most bookstores.

I remember one local store (part of a chain) that didn’t stock Dawkin’s God Delusion and in the “Best Seller’s” section replaced it with a bible studies book. Other stores of the same chain carried the book and had it in the best seller’s section.

The book is a horrible read. Very dry.

Yep, that is what I figured. It has been a while since i’ve visited this store. I may have to check to see if it is still classified as fiction. The only reason I stumbled across it before is because it is near Crichton and Cussler.

watching olberman is a sign that you have been left behind in the evolution process, even it it was only briefly… You know, I felt like my IQ was dropping as I watched Olberman a.k.a. “Taxcheatus Maximus” so I changed channels to “That 70’s Show” and felt better immediately!

Yea happy birthday to a great fiction writer. It appears only 4 out of 10 Americans even believe in his theory.

Yet again, Faux News shows either ignorance or bias (I report, you decide):

and just 24 percent of those who attend church weekly believe in the explanation for the origin of life.

That’s a weird article. If you told me that 76% of people believed in evolution and 24% believed in creationism, I would probably nod in silent agreement because that sounds reasonable. But if you had told me that only 40% believed in evolution and 60% in creationism, I would wonder what part of the Bible Belt was used for this survey.
