Handbag fascination

maybe i’m saying this to the wrong crowd, maybe not (hehe), but i have become a handbag addict. i’ve bought 6 handbags since August. Why?

and, i just caught myself online looking at new coach bags. there are 3 that I like. WTF? I used to never be this way! Is this what my 30’s is going to be about? glam handbags and designer sunglasses?

geeze, man. what have i become.

ok, off to buy a new bag. :stuck_out_tongue:

(just kidding.)

well this is an obsessive group, so I think your handbag proclivity isn’t so weird. My 19 year old sister loves handbages, especially Coach, and has way more than she needs. She has a different one everytime I see her, but they all look pretty cool.

If nothing else it is a handy place for you to keep spare tubes or a swimsuit.

Most of my life, I verged on being a tomboy. Now I check out shoes and handbags every time I’m in the store! I used to buy practical shoes - now they sexier they are, the better!!

it’s very strange for me to be doing this all of a sudden, and i feel as though it must stop. these things are freaking expensive and it is endless!

for a young woman at 19…man, she got it early. perhaps only intervention could stop her. lol.

to be honest with you–i think it started when i got my new car…the interior is coach leather. dammit, it’s like a drug!

(i will not buy a new handbag, i will not buy a new handbag, i want a new hand–DAMMIT! i will not buy a new handbag…)

Well at 19 she is a very plain jane kinda girl She doesn’t wear lots of jewlery, doesn’t buy expensive clothes, no make up, isn’t into ‘girl’ things. That is why I think it is so cool of her to have a handbag fetish. It is so noticeable on her and such an indulgence.

And I’m with you on the leather. MMMMmmmmleather…

Dawn, last winter (of all seasons) i bought a pair of couture nicole miller shoes. they were on sale for $395.00. i think it was a mid winter depression or something.

the heels on the things are so damn high and skinny i feel like a street walker…that could be one of the dummest purchases of recent, i’ve never even worn them in public. (but my husband likes them. so maybe it wasn’t such a dumb purchase after all…lol)

i know you must have a similar story…it’s a girl thing.

I just bought these high, strappy CFM shoes to go dancing in while we were in Jamaica and my husband almost keeled over when he saw me in them! It’s nice to still be able to surprise him after 15 years!

My girlfriend loves nice handbags. She’s too frugal to purchase any, though, so I do it for her. Our first Christmas together I got her a Kate Spade, the “Sam”, I think, a nice simple black bag. That was a few years (and a few more gifted handbags) ago. Last Christmas was the Coach bag with matching scarf. I’m stuck for this year, though, any ideas?

My girlfriend’s cousin works for Dior. We went to dinner with her while in NY and I was looking at her bag, turns out it costs $2000. I said I was shocked to which she smiled and said that is nothing. The girls thought I was so out of touch:)

I do think this is a winter thing – guys and girls - Could be shoes and handbags – or cds, dvds, car parts, bike parts, etc. etc.

Must be a winter depression thing.

I always feel better when I go spend money

that is awsome!!!

Pete–hell yes I have suggestions.

how about some coach shoes? There are fabulous! Ones with a little fur are all the rage.

And if she’s fruggel, get her a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle (Chanel, eau de parfum) to go with the shoes. She may never drop that kind of jack on perfume, but you can! I’m telling you, it’s sensational–go smell it and see for yourself.

if you don’t like the shoes idea, get her a pair of gorgeous silk pajamas instead…they feel very indulgent, she’ll love them.

have fun!

So, I’m counting at least 3 or 4 Christmases here based on your post. How about a diamond? (just kidding)

I really think it’s a personal taste thing, so I don’t have any real suggestions for you. As long as you put some thought and effort into the present, though, I’m sure she’ll love it.

Uhh…this will be #5, I think, I guess I’m not moving real fast on that diamond thingy…

She’s been in Africa since 9/2 and is arriving back here on 12/17. Normally I would have a good idea what to get her because we go shopping together and I see her looking at things. This time it will be more difficult. I’m thinking something more practical might be useful as she’ll be going back to Africa until July, 2006. Maybe a water purifier and some mosquito netting…yeah, nothing says “I love you” like a water purifier…!

well, geeze, why didn’t you say so. lol…

that’s cool about africa. i’m sure just hanging out with you will be present enough, it’s hard to be away like that.

If she likes bags how about a Kipling bag? They are casual and fun and have the added benefit of having a cute little stuffed gorilla on every bag. She could use it to lug stuff around in Africa but still be stylish!

Yup, there is a handbag for every occasion.

You need to go to a “purse party” like my wife did. It’s an illegal party of high end knock offs.

On top of scrapbooking parties, my wife has Pickle parties (some sort of purse). I never have to ask twice about signing up for an Ironman!
