I’ve been working through a hamstring injury with the help of a sports med doc and a physical therapist. In about 5 weeks, the PT increased my range of motion almost 30 degrees. I’ve just now been cleared to run a little (1 mile at 12:00/mile) and to return to the weight room. Even though I was expecting a decrease in strength from the pre-injury state, as well as from the lay-off, I was really depressed about how difficult light weight was on the squat press and leg curls.
The PT tonight explained that when a muscle significantly changes shape, as mine has, the fibers are re-distributed and the power goes down. It just needs some time to re-develop in its new form. Has anyone else heard this before?
