Hammer Nutrition Annual Sale. What Do You Use?

Annual customer appreciation sale is on. I only use Recoverite and Race Day Boost/Anti-Fatigue (these two for mountain bike racing). I had used their gels, endurolytes, etc. for years, but didn’t think they did anything. I found much more benefit from Gu and Salt Tabs.

Browsing their site, seems like they have a pill for everything. I should say PILLS. Their supplements have HUGE dosage. Multivitamin is 7 pills. They will even supply ziplock baggies with your purchase. Some of their other supplements are 4+ pills. Good God, you’d need a little suitcase to carry everything.

Anybody use that other stuff. I get the feeling that Hammer is very very good at the glossy brochure marketing. Their website just has that ‘feel’ to it. Like I need to become an independent business owner and have little Hammer Nutrition parties at my house. Much like Amway.

They have a coffee brand called 53x11. The organic espresso is outstanding. I like their vanilla gels actually also.

I’m a huge fan of HEED and their gels. Two new flavors, Niccollia (sp?) is Nutella-sih and really good. Chocolate- Peanut Butter is the second new flavor, I haven’t tried it yet, but have some ready to go.

I also use Tissue Rejuventator, seems to keep me a little less injury prone.

Heed seemed too weak for me. When I switched to Accerlerade my body responded much better. I wanted to like their products because they seem less ‘processed’ than other brands. But they just don’t work for me and they are a tad on the costly side of things.

The HEED stuff I’ve had on course before, and the taste is a little wrong for me. However, they make an Apple Cinnamon gel that tastes like (for the canucks out there) the old Tim Hortons apple cinnamon donuts, the brown ones with the cinnamon sugar on them and the apple-pie like filling. They’re awesome!

I use many of the Hammer Nutrition products, including the supplements, and have found them to be extremely helpful.

The supplements all come in capsules instead of pills so that binders aren’t needed and they aren’t subjected to heat during processing. So, in the end, you take a lot of capsules to get the same dosage.

I take their ‘Daily Essentials’ along with Tissue Rejuvenator, Digest Caps, and EndurOmega. It’s a lot of capsules every day, but I spread them out during the day. (Morning, Noon, Night).

I have a small, and a big pill organizer for race weekends, etc.

Same thing with Endurolytes. People freak out because there are only 50 mg in each capsule, and everyone thinks they need to be taking 500 - 1000 mgs. The benefit of having a lower dosage per capsule, is that it allows you to tailor the dosage to yourself, and the conditions. You can take 150 mg on a cooler day, or 250 on a hotter day, and/or you can spread them out over time to avoid GI issues. Yes, that means that you need to have to carry more with you, but I don’t find that it’s that big of a drawback.

I like HEED and Hammer Gel for training, as well as Perpetuem and Sustained Energy for longer training and races.

HEED takes some getting used to, you have to understand that the ‘understated’ flavor is a conscious decision, and late in a hot IM, you’ll appreciate it. You can mix it stronger if you want more flavor/calories. I think a lot of people don’t like it at first, just because they are expecting a really strong/sweet flavor like Gatorade. If people are forewarned that it’s mild flavor, they generally have a more positive reaction.

.

I use HEED, Hammer Bars, and Hammer Gels for the most part. When I start introducing longer training rides I’ll mix Sustained Energy w/ HEED (2:1).

Flavor wise I like it all, but I love the Chocolate-Peanut butter Hammer Gel and Vanilla. HEED, I only drink Lemon Lime. Hammer Bars - they are all delicious, and the ingredients are very good.

Combo of Mito Caps, Anti Fag and Endurolytes, keeps me going for ever. Well it seems.

Here’s my opinion. An opinion. It isn’t like I tested chemical composition or calorie count…

Perpetuem seems to work but all flavors except strawberry vanilla are kind of gross. Also, it spoils really easily in the heat. Like one day in the heat and it is rancid.

Heed is weird tasting and weak. I use only if I have nothing else.

Endurolites Fizz are great but they stain the bottles. They leave gooey residue inside the bottles and it is very hard to clean especially aero bottles. Nuun works and tastes just as well and does not stain.

Sustained energy - no idea why this exists. They can just sell it as additional SKUs under the perpetuem brand.

Gels I use and they seem to work (as in: I don’t blow up when using just the gels for nutrition) however, and this is completely subjective of course, other brands gel give me more oomph. That warm feeling like after eating a huge plate of pasta? It just isn’t there with hammer gels.

Hammer bars are great, definitely better than most other energy bars, but Bonk Breakers are better.

Their supplements and pills and other legal performance enhancing stuff? Never used it. I suspect most of it is bullshit.

I have used hammer on and off for years. I used other stuff that was cheaper more often, that is until august 2013. Got very sick and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

So after tinkering with many different products I found that hammer was best at keeping stable blood sugars. I know because I had to test it a lot during activity.

I get my nutrition from heed and perpetum on long efforts. I use the gels, but prefer GU gels when I want more simple sugars.
