Saw Hamilton last night. Still not sure if it lived up to the “hype”. I thought the music was catchy, though I had trouble understanding a lot of the words (man I am an old 36). I thought the section of the 2nd act about his son and his duel was not really necessary, they almost lost me to indifference there. I would say King George was easily my favorite character, and I liked how his song changed over the course of the show. Jefferson’s “what did i miss?” was a pretty funny bit.
Haven’t seen it yet but would like to. It came through Boston last year on a limited run and the ticket prices were ridiculous; just saw where it is coming to Providence soon on an even shorter run so expecting that tickets will be hard to come by there also.
Ron Chernow’s book that Lin-Manuel Miranda based the musical from is excellent.
We have tickets to see it later this year. Cannot remember the date. Cannot wait to see it!

I tell everyone who’s going to see it to play the soundtrack in the car for a couple of weeks so you’re not straining to catch the lyrics when it’s live.

Probably would have helped. I am fortunate to know a lot about the time period, so I knew where we were in the macro sense at each turn. If you are unfamiliar with the songs, or anything beyond the superficial founding of our country it could be very confusing.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ is nice. But yeah, Newark is a dump.
Disney+ with closed captioning. Obviously not the experience of being in the theater but quite enjoyable.

We’ve seen Hamilton twice and too thought it was brilliant.
We also saw the Disney+ concert of Christopher Jackson (who played GW) a few weeks ago and it was great. Very talented and funny guy.

It’s a pure work of genius. I also recommend becoming well familiar with the soundtrack, and even doing a little background reading too.
The son’s duel IMO provided a foreshadowing and contrast to the father’s duel, sets up one pillar of Eliza’s pain, and established up the duel “commandments”

Super talented writer and performers, but just not my cup of tea. Will never sit through it again, but I say that with no malice. My favorite movie is Road House. I doubt I’m the target audience.

I love the concept.
I love the story.
The opening song was amazing! It really was.
But the music got repetitive. And I didn’t like the lack of speaking parts. I think it needed some speaking parts and narration to help explain the story and keep the audience engaged.

These are both interesting article. Miranda was not just a genius for reading chernow and going “Hamilton was hip hop” but that he integrated so many hat tips to hip hop and rap stars
I still get shivers watching this, because it was so early on, and you look at both that period of the white House, the video and today and just reflect on how far we’ve come…

I’m firmly in the camp of “I just don’t get musicals.” They annoy the fuck out of me. I made it through 10 minutes of Hamilton on Disney+ and that was about eight minutes too long.
A few years back we went to see “Into the Woods” because the trailers we saw looked interesting as a mashup of different fairy tales and a good cast. The clever bastards showed no singing during the trailers. We had no idea it was a Broadway musical. First song kicks in and I’m like “Ut-oh!” Second song and I told my wife I was going to the lobby to stare at the wall for the next 90 minutes, and did exactly that… stared into my smart phone anyway.
The Wizard of Oz, Grease, and The South Park movie are about the only musicals I can tolerate. Maybe Jersey Boys if that counts as a musical. Those movies were way more talking than singing. Something like Hamilton or Les Miserables where they sing just about all the dialogue is just pure torture.
