Halfmax review wanted

Sorry if this was already posted and I missed it. Just got back from the ballpark watching the Cards destroy the Red Sox and I’m in too good a mood to search through the back posts.

How was Halfmax at Innsbrook this weekend? How did Fish do? It was a phenomenal day for racing on Sunday here in St Louis. Did anyones huge peniss’ (peni?) hang out? Did anyones eyes get poked out by perky nips? Did anyone PR on a P3C? Were Rotorcranks involved? I saw a water moccasin at the race last year. Would that freak anyone out to see a few seconds before a lake swim? Can we start a Slowtwitch Hair Removal Tent at races? It could be next to the massage tent…I’ll even staff it! Details dammit, I want details!!!

Anyone, anyone
.

Sunday was my first Halfmax, but probably not my last. What a great race! The setting is beautiful, the bike course is very fast and the run…holy cow! I find most triathletes (myself included) to be masochistics by nature, but that run course nearly had me in tears. It’s an extra special torture that the end of the first loop runs right by the finish line so I could get a good view as I plodded up the first (of many hills) for my second loop. My girlfriend, who is a 3:20 marathoner, ran a loop of the course while I was on the bike and when I was at T2, said, “I ran the course. Took me 57 minutes. Good luck.”

The race was better supported than any race I’ve ever done, the volunteers were extremely friendly and the St. Louis triathlon community in general seemed very large and supportive of one another. Also, big props to Big Shark Bicycle Company. I had my bike shipped there from Dallas and they were extremely helpful and friendly.

I’m sure I’ll be back next year to try and conquer that run course and I’ll be bringing friends.

One of the best run races I’ve ever seen. Volunteers were incredible! Fish had a great race, Jamie had tummy trouble again. It was darn hot and hilly and great fun for some bizarro reason! Huge Texas Iron sweep of female AG awards! Wahooooooooooo!

Oh yeah, Infinit was yummy!!! I didn’t even need endurolytes on the run! Nice flavor, not too sweet, so easy to get down tons of, which was good because it was so hot.

Anyone have a link to the results? Nothing is showing up yet on the website. I did the race last year and had a blast (well, until I started the run) It was a nice venue and all the people were great.

Mark’s races always are top shelf. I also did it last year and had as much fun as you did. I remember thinking how nice the shade felt on the run…and then changing my mind about matters very quickly. I had intended to go hang out there and take some pictures this year but something came up and I couldn’t make it.

I was there this year, although I had to pull out after the first loop of the bike course due to back spasms. It was extremely well run again, although there was less fanfare than last year. I read on TNO that the bike course was 3 miles short due to a last minute change because of safety issues. Also, the swim may have been slightly long.

Halfmax was great again this year - great support, great venue, great food, great beer, great etc. There are a number of race reports over on TNO - as most of them say, it was hot (90+) for most of the run. For me it was a bad day - my run splits were 1:07 the first loop, and :48 for the second loop due to some “air balloon” sitting right on top of my stomach and pushing up on my diaphragm with every breath. I basically jog/walked to the conference center belching the whole way and wishing I could throw up. It started to clear during the last 2 miles into the turn-around, so I hit my watch and ran hard on the second loop. I ran a 1:30 the first two years, so a 1:55 was a disappointment. Still, all in all, it continues to be my favorite race. The fact that most of the entry fees go to MLERF is a huge added bonus!
