Half Ironman Tasmania

Anybody here ever do, or even hear anything about this race? My girlfriend recently relocated to The University of Tasmania, Australia to pursue her Phd. Well she wants to know when I will come and visit so of course, I checked the local race schedule.

This sounded like a larger race with some elite participation Looks to be in late January, great time from a job standpoint to take a vacation, middle of summer down there, and just the thing to keep me training thru the holiday season. Thoughts, suggestions, or God don’t do THAT ONE’s appreciated.

Jim - I haven’t done the race but have heard good things about it.

Its relatively new (ie has only been run twice) but is now part of the “official” half-ironman circuit in Australia. This circuit is a series of races that constitute the qualifying events for Ironman Australia.

If you go to http://forums.transitions.org.au/ you’ll find a quite a few of the regular posters there did the race earlier this year. The race director (Kerry Stubbs) also hangs out on “Transitions” and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I visited Hobart pre-tri days and can tell you that whatever you are going there for it is well worth the trip. Especially the Cadbury Chocolate factory (bring a back pack) and the Cascade Brewery (if they let you take a back pack).

I was in the Navy at the time and seriously considered not going back to the ship.
