Half Ironman Sunday?

I need some advice. Two weeks ago my training was great for a Half Ironman coming up this sunday. Since then life has been crazy and busy. My workouts have been a shell of what they should have been leading up to the race. I have not gotten a ride in of more than 29 miles and my longest run has only been around 6 miles. I have missed numerous workouts to boot. I had pretty much decided to pass on the race, but it is in my hometown and the last half for a good while. (Baby due next May) Should I just consider this a taper, and give it a shot, or focus on an olympic distance race two weeks later. I have competed in 3 HIM’s before, but nothing more than a sprint this season. Just curious what people think. Thanks

I’d say do it, just don’t push it. Treat it like a really tough, but supported, brick workout and take your time in T1 and T2.

If you think you will have fun doing it, do it. If not, go train on the course and cheer us on.

On another note: can you PM me about the park where the start/finish/transition are? I am trying to decide on what to bring to entertain and transport my 7 mo old. Jogging stroller, if no sidewalks, or regular stroller, if sidewalks are accessable.

Thanks

I think you should do the event at whatever pace you can and still have “fun.” Then, I think you should sign on to by the swimmer on my relay team for Hickory Knob. Maybe Erin will run for us.

Don’t you hate it when life gets in the way? It’s been a bad year for me that way, too.

You have pictures of Bea Arthur nude?

Oh sure… like you don’t?

if everything was going to plan up until the past two weeks…you’ve already done what you needed to do to be ready. go have fun.

I thought you would be out riding your bike. I should have stayed on the relay team with you guys. I just really wanted to race once we got a new race director and it opened me back up for the race. Your swimmer is a little on the anal side he will probably be calling out splits to you on the bike and Erin on the run. He can't help it. I'm sure I will hear it for a while if he beats me on the swim. Another option is a relay team. austin is thinking of backing out of the whole thing and maybe he and I can team up. I just feel guilty not doing the whole race.....

Like someone else said before, you’ve already done the training and if it was going well until two weeks ago then you will have hardly lost much, if any fitness. Try and keep active this week to keep fresh and have fun at the race.

I would bring the jogger. The roads inside the park area are paved, but there is a good bite of grassy area inside the park. If I remember correctly, the roads are smooth and it will be easy to get around by staying on paved areas. Check out the state park map. The Ranger Center is located at the finish area and will allow be great clean and cool place for the baby. The post race meal is also served inside the center.
