Half-Iron vs Half-marathon recovery

Just finished a half marathon today and finished my first half-Iron 2 weeks ago. I was much more tired after the half-iron but I think my legs took a harder beating during the half marathon due to the increase in pace.

Just wondering if people have similar experiences and if so I think it gives some insights for my future running workouts.

It’s really just a matter of speed. Your relative run speed in an open HM vs your normal training pace is a lot faster than in an HIM. Harder running = more muscle/tissue damage = more sore the next few days. The best way to shrink the recovery time is to run more… 13 miles hard off a 100-mile per week base feels a lot better than off a 40-mile base.
