Hello fellow triathletes,
If you are looking for a flat and scenic half-iron triathlon in June, please check out our race. It is the 1st annual River City Half-Iron Triathlon. We have a gorgeous course and are committed to providing racers with great experience! I am the race director and a professional triathlete, so I appreciate the qualities of a well-organized event.
Litespeed Bicycles is headquartered in Chattanooga, and is an enthusiastic sponsor of this event. Also, the timing will be handled by the same company who times Memphis in May. All registration is through Active.com. For more information, check out our website: www.RiverCityBikes.com/triathlon
Thank you for your time and have a great race season!

Flat? In Chattanooga? Must be loops around a swimming pool? Flat in East Tennessee is mountainous in other areas of the country. Now scenic, I’m okay with that…
Jermiah, Isn’t Quintana Roo located in Chattanooga as well?
While Chattanooga is certainly a very mountainous area we all should know, where there is a mountain, there is also a valley. The area is indeed very scenic and the course promises to be rather fast. The swim is in Lake Nickajack and the bike course and run course are basically on its banks.
Wish I could race there, but I’ll be In Philadelphia for the USPro Championships.

I am curious why you scheduled this race on the same day as the Mach Tenn Triathlon which is only about a 30 minute drive from your race. The Mach Tenn race has been held on the first Saturday in June for many years and it is one of the best organized events I have ever participated in. I am happy that the Chattanooga area has finally gotten a half-iron distance triathlon, but am disappointed that it conflicts with a race that I put on my schedule every year.
The race really takes place about 18 miles east of Chattanooga, in the Sequatchie Valley. It is a single loop course and we have taken a GPS system out to measure it. The total elevation change over the entire bike course is only 500 feet. Not too bad over 56 miles.
Yes, QR is headquartered here in Chattanooga and they are also a sponsor of the event. They will be giving tours of their factory friday afternoon. Thanks,
Jeremiah
We are aware of the Mach Tenn and certainly do not want to step on anyone’s toes. We wanted to avoid other major events and had originally scheduled it for the weekend before. The race site is on TVA property and well into the planning, TVA decided that the original date was unacceptable. Being that the Mach Tenn is a sprint triathlon, we thought that our race would appeal to a different set athletes. There are a number of events that we would have been in conflict with no matter what the date was in the May/June time frame. Athlete’s like the Mach Tenn and I don’t think they will suffer any loss in participation due to our event. We will certainly look to change the date for next year. Thank you for your reply.
