Am making tentative plans for IM China as well. Have not been to Hainan, but I would hazard a guess that you would be far more likely to encounter jellyfish as a delicacy then in the water.
Before charges of racism are levelled…I’m ethnic chinese, though not a chinese national.
I haven’t done the tri there but I’ve swum in the ocean of Haikou and Sanya and didn’t encounter any jellyfish.
I’m intrigued by the event, too. Would love to be involved in the organization, actually. Anyone know who’s going to undertake the event organization and promotion for the WTC? My guess would be IMG.
Yes I did the Race in 2002, also have vacationed there since I too live in China, never have seen or heard anyone talking about Jellyfish in the water there.
IMG was the presenter of the old series, I hope they are involved with the new race as well, the organization was excellent.
Ppkestrel and Mikeran, where do you live and train? I have recently (4 months ago) moved to Nantong, Jiangsu Province. I have tried to run outdoors, but the pollution is too much. I haven’t tried to do any real bike workouts I just don’t want to be breathing this air too deeply.
I Live in Ghangzhou, you slowly get used to the air, I try to Bike as early as possible before the heat and pollution get too strong. But mostly just use my Computrainer indoors. I don’t have many problems running anymore I guess after a point you get used to the air quality.
You are correct the race will be in the Yalong Bay area same as the old race. The start and finish area will be a bit different, They are in discussion to use the Miss World arena for the Transition/Expo area, rather than the Holiday Inn Resort, due to what is hoped to be larger numbers of athletes.
