left El Paso this am at noon…at 13.30 we landed in Tulsa because the plane got damaged during take off…and there are major storms over Atlanta…at 6pm…still stranded in Tulsa…and trying to reschedule flights…lot of upset people…they tell me they can get me to NY state at 9am…on Sunday!!! all other planes are full…I asked if they can see with an other Airline, but it’s not possible…and no sign of my bike! And spending the whole day in a plane and at the airport to be told I can fly back to El Paso tomorrow and go to Syracuse some other time…
F…!!@!@@@@@
so there I am writing my post from the beautiful Holiday Inn in Tulsa Oklahoma…
during take off, it shook quite a bit, then there was a smell of burnt rubber during the end of the take off.
The pilot said it was nothing.
But then because of major storm activity, the pilot tried to go around the storm but had to land in Tulsa as no planes were going to land in Atlanta apparently and not enough fuel to do that of a loop…
Landed in OK…then they said that they realized some of the rubber thread of the wheels went off and hit something which was damaged…
i spent christmas eve and christmas day sleeping in ATL thanks to delta and what they claimed was “bad weather.” i ended up having to come back to miami and never got home to see my family. turns out that it was REALLY their computer system - not “weather.” they ruined my christmas, i had to pay to ship all my presents home to everyone who then got them late, and i got a bad cold from sleeping in the airport. but, i am flying to the NYC marathon in November for free thanks to their stupidity. let’s hope i get there this time!
Hope you make it and I hope that your bike is OK. let us know what happens, and make SURE that you get the names of everyone you talk to and then write Delta a nasty letter!!
Also, I think there is a rule that requires them to put you on the next available flight on any carrier. I read that in Cosmo once, so it may not be true! You may want to do some web research on that one.
I was thinking that at least we could be stranded somewhere nice…no, we get Tulsa…
I wrote down all the names indeed…now there are about 150 passengers of Delta at the hotel, sharing their worst traveling experiences…
Hmmmm, although I cant account for the actual experience that you recieved let me opine to what I think happened.
The shaking, it depends where you sit on the aircraft as to what you feel, more forward and you will feel the nose wheels not stopping against the snubbers like they should, But it could be a myriad of things.
The smell of rubber could be and very much will be the scent that you noticed from another aircraft landing, its somewhat common.
I just hope they find your bike.
Was looking forward to meeting you and seeing you in action.
Maybe some Delta miracle will happen, you never know.
I’m leaving first thing tomorrow and probably won’t have internet access til the race is over, so if you make it great…if not, maybe we’ll see you in Tayhas one of these days.
Don’t count on the airlines to find a solution for you.
Call your travel agent (or check Expedia, etc) find some flights numbers that will get you to your destination and then tell the airline what you want…
A few years back (going to IMFL), I was stuck in Memphis on Wed…and they claimed there wasn’t another flight until Sunday (day after the race). Obviously that wasn’t much an option. I called my travel agent, wrote down some numbers…presented them to NWA (regional) and was on my way to Fort Walton Beach 45 minutes later.
At least you don’t live in Durango, CO. Our flights to Denver have some of the highest cancellation and delay rates in the entire United Air system…I have spent more time than I would care to admit in the Denver airport with Bob Roll waiting for hours at a time by the counter “just in case we can fly tonight”. For important trips I will often drive the six hours to Denver rather than risk it…
