Somebody talk to me a bit about the new HED3 Deep front wheel that I am seeing out there for sale. I am interested and switching from my 60 front to a Hed3, then I saw the deep version. I was also thinking of going up to an 808 or 1080 front, but I was worried about the rideability in all conditions by going as deep as the 1080 (I am riding a Hed Jet 60 front weighing 148lbs…no problems with the front end in wind). Anyone have some simple facts/opinions about the Deep Hed3 front? Thanks for any help.
Hed website says it all on this subject. Despite being the coolest looking wheels I have ever seen, H3 Deep is only faster than the H3 in limited circumstances, i.e., for very fast riders. Really, everything you need on this issue is on Hed’s site. It’s a shame they don’t happen to be optimal for the masses (like me). If they were, I would buy a H3 Deep front instantly.
In answer to your broader question I have a FP 60 and a Hed C2 90. Frankly, I think a H3 would be better all around wheel than either one of these although I like them both a lot. FWIW, I weigh high 150s.
I weigh 165. I just got an H3 front. I rented one from Echappe before I bought it. I think you might be bothered in windy conditions with the H3 Deep in the front.
I recently purchased a H3 front and H3Deep rear. Based on the info on the Hed website, as the other poster said, a H3 is going to be faster for most people on the front but the H3D does make a great rear wheel. Very happy with them. Bought them a couple months ago. Only done a Oly and a sprint with them but they were great!
hedcycling.com – second the comments that the website says it all.
I ride the 3c front and rear, not the deep. Great wheels. I could benefit from the deep rear, but I’ve had these for a season and love them.
Unless you are averaging 25+mph H3 is fine. H3D is for 25 or 26+mph otherwise HED says there are no benefits.
