im tossing up whether or not to renew my gym membership. instead im thinking i might just get some dumbbells and a swiss ball and build up a really strong core.
ive been going to gym for last 8 or so years so giving it up might be a bit of a mission. ive had about 2 months off it so far and yeah. i dont know what to do! argh!
You might want to add a pull-up bar. The home gym does not have the social factor, though. Not that oggling the woman in the tight shorts and sport top is really social.
I have a Bowflex that I don’t use much (if at all) since I switched to a Swiss ball and dumbbells. Definitely a better all round workout and adds to balance control too. It was cheap to set up and I can do it any time I want, I’m thinking of selling the Bowflex and buying some PC’s or a CT??
If you get dumbbells. Look at the different “Block” systems. They take up very little space and one can change the weight in one second per side. Unless you are into haveing a bunch of hexbells around or constantly pulling off and putting plates they are great. They are more expensive.
You could do a lot with dumbells and a swiss ball. I do a lot of one-legged exercised that require very little weight but are very difficult because of balance/stability. They really build your core and a lot of muscles that don’t usually get worked through weightlifting alone.
I second the recommendation for a chinup bar though - I have one which hooks on to any doorway and comes down just as easily.
