Gym membership hassle

Ok, just finished up a two year contract commitment with local gym, the contract i signed two + years ago has under Renewal Terms, this box checked " Roll over to open-end / month-to-month at $35 + tax per month" which is the same rate i got the original two years for. So, when i scan in, it throws up a flag, and they tell me my membership has expired, etc. (even though they just drafted my bank account account for monthly payment. After pretty strong statements of opinions, they position is the “open-end / month to month” means i continue to pay the $35 to keep from losing my membership, but i have to be “under contract” to actually use the facilities, which means signing a new two year contract, at an increased price.
Anybody else been subjected to such crap or have any thoughts, etc ?? Even at higher rate, still best deal in my area, just don’t like being played for a “duh”…

Sorry to hear that, that is complete B.S.

Drop them like a first-time triathlete on a mtn bike and find a new gym. There are some excellent facilities around here for $30 a month or less, so the price seems high to begin with.
