Guys - who gets chicked by gf or spouse?

Looking at Slowman’s latest poll.

My wife beats me on the swim and run regularly. I may have beat her on the swim once but never on the run. But then, she’s 16 yrs younger than me, so I at least have an excuse, as feeble as it may be.

BUT…I ALWAYS beat her on the bike, every single time. After all, the bike is the only place that really matters. Right?

Who else gets chicked by their other half?

future wife beats me on the run if the run is more than 6 miles.

i beat her on the bike…but its getting close

and I beat her on the swim.

I beat my boyfriend at both the swim and the bike. He hasn’t been swimming very long so that’s acceptable… but I’m way more hardcore on the bike.

Blush… Pics or it isn’t happening.

“Some of those female pros are getting dicked by the age group men!”

I can usually beat my wife in running (she’s just a runner) pretty handily. However, once she beat me in a 5K. We were running together for the first 1.5 miles and then she just pulls away from me and I had nothing to respond with. What’s funny is that she doesn’t like to talk about because (I believe) she thinks that talking about it makes me feel bad about myself.

Thankfully I have my hubby on the swim but that’s it…I’ll never have him on the run (duh, 38 year old guy can still knock out a 31 min 10k!) and he’s just a freakin’ animal on the bike…he just goes…it is so not fair! Yeah for the swim!

Till now I’ve only been beaten during my post IM form slump (on the bike) but the rest of the time I’d beat her even on a bad day. Unfortunately the work I’ve put into her training and position means I may be facing the prospect of having to go quite well all the time to stay ahead of her.

Her next 10mi TT is likely going to be 27mph, a speed she could only maintain 2years ago by drafting me the whole way…

I got chicked by my girlfriend in Locarno in '86. I was screaming on the bike up the mountain and tried to hang with the local bike pros on the way down - no time to eat or drink. I bonked real bad 3km into the run and she passed me somewhere around the 15th km. She won womens overall, I was pissed at myself after crawling in 100 meters behind her.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. I’ll probably never beat my wife (former collegiate swimmer) on the swim and I’m still behind her on the run, but even with her bike improving a ton this year I still am pretty solidly ahead of her on the bike. This is my first year of tris and I have no problem getting chicked by her, she’s top 5 in her age group every race we’ve done this year and we enjoy the training and races a lot as a couple.

At 1500m my gf has 5 minutes on me in the swim. Yeah I’m slow in the water and she is fast in the water, but I catch up on the bike and run.

The girl I’m involved with (we were engaged, hopefully will be again, currently ‘dating’) can hand me my ass any day of the week, and most likely twice on sundays. The worst part is, if we go out for a ride, i’ll sit on her wheel, and still have to be working a decent amount to keep up 25 - 27 mph cuz her draft SUCKS (she’s obviously smaller)… she sits behind me and she freewheels away while i’m dying trying to keep us above 23 / 24 mph.

The other day she decided to come to a run workout for my club (she’s a cyclist mostly, but is considering trying out duathlons again). She was so far ahead of me, one of my coaches was like, doesn’t that make you feel embarrassed (he said it jokingly), and I said, nope, I’ve had a while to come to terms with the idea that she is just an absolutely better athlete than I am… its good motivation when I’m out there training to have that rabbit just out of my reach.

Dude - I’m no Dr. Phil, but you’ve got more issues than her just dusting you on the bike!

Because we decided to take a step back from an engagement, because we were having some problems? But now we’re trying to work it out? I would say that’s healthy, and hopeful… not an issue. I also don’t have any issues with her being faster than me… hell, I encourage her ever step of the way, same way she does for me.

My GF has me in the swim easily (I am one of those swim like a rock runner types). She cannot beat me on the bike any longer, but she will never let me forget that her IM debut bike split was a few minutes faster than my IM debut bike split. She swears that she will beat me on the bike again (always possible, she was a gymnast and has the quads to prove it). But I then gently remind her that my IM debut run split was over 2 hours faster than hers. So, swim - yes, bike - maybe, run - not a chance in hell.

is your wife in the nz cycling team or something?

Not yet…

My wife beat me for years in any event of any distance. She was an all conference NCAA CC and track runner, while I was a lazy bum, so it took me a while to catch up.

Last year I finally passed her and have steadily increased that gap. It’s driving her crazy!

You still in Cambridge? I’ll be living there for a while after I get back from overseas in October.
