Alrighty, here’s how we’re going to do this. I’m going to give you a set of PDFs to download. I think I’ve hit on a system that takes care of all kinds of folks with all kinds of disparate needs, but, you tell me. Here’s Week 1’s workouts. Before I go further and publish subsequent weeks, let me know if this format works for you, whether it’s readable, if you understand it, having any trouble downloading it, and so forth.
Excellent. Opens in both my iphone and on my desk top computer so there is super easy access. Love the PDF format and explanation of the sets.
Gracias Senor
Thanks!
I’ve been lurking on a few of these Guppie Challenges, but I really want to stick with this one because I think I’m close to making big improvements if I can stay consistent. I did the 300 yd baseline swim from the first guppie challenge this morning - 6:01, so plenty of room to improve.
It all looks great to me. As a non-swim background person I appreciate the explanation of terms, it’s explanatory without being condescending. Thanks!
about dolphin kick, I struggle with board, It would be much easier to me to do 3/4 fr strokes and then one doplhin and so on, also I can do doplhin kick underwater much better than with kickboard, can I change kickboard to underwater dolphin kick?
one arm pull, ¿the other arm on the side or in front?
can we increase meters? I mean workouts are about 1500, can we make this week workouts twice?
set 2 of 3rd workout is build? I mean each 100 faster?
Thanks so much, can’t wait to get in the water!
Thanks man! Time to actually make some progress on this swimming thing. Im in.
Dan - You seem to think that the flutter kick and the “scissor kick” are the same thing. This is not true. For kicking and swimming freestyle, you should never be doing any sort of scissor kick. I highly recommend you replace all the times you say “scissor down and dolphin kick back” with “flutter kick down and dolphin kick back”. This is not just “semantics” since there is a profound diff between the two kicks, scissor kick being the kick used with side stroke. I sent you a PM on this about 3 or 4 months ago when you used the term scissor kick in your last “guppy project”, but you ignored it.
Awesome… Thank you !

oh jesus criminy. my mistake. i thought i had excised scissor kick out of the PDF i posted today. apparently not. just, to clarify, it’s the kick you do when you do freestyle. that kick.

OK, great, just don’t want these young impressionable guppies to get the idea that scissor kicking is a good idea. Perhaps you can go into the pdf and correct it, or post a revised pdf??? Otherwise that word “scissor” is going to stay there for all to see over the next few months, and for future years if people search for it:)
i’ll go in and purge scissor.

Great, thanks!!!

Not to pick up on the semantics, but isn’t scissor kick EXACTLY what half the guppy population are doing when they’re (we’re - I include myself in that community) doing freestyle? Isn’t that why we’re here and not fishtwitching?
How does everyone bring their workouts to the pool? Dry erase board? Paper?
paper (use a laser printer, not an inkjet), and stick it to a wet kickboard.
I print it, and use a zip lock bag to keep it dry.

I will stick them is a large ziplock bag…of course I haven’t been in the pool since November and wondering if I should join up on this…
I’m not a guppy, but I haven’t been training regularly in a very long time I’m swimming masters now but can only get there 2-3x per week over the next couple of months.
I hope you don’t mind, but I’m gonna steal some of these, chop the off times, and use them to get in a quick 1000-1500 at lunch.

Right, the scissor kick is the kick you should NOT be doing when swimming freestyle, hence the reason for my posts strenuously objecting to this. The freestyle kick is the flutter kick:)
