Gulf Coast of Texas training....too damn hot?

I’m headed to the Corpus Christi area early next year. What’s the training like? Too hot and humid to be very productive in the summer? Windy? I’ll be stationed at the Ingleside Naval Station. Are there decent roads to ride/run?

I lived in Houston for a couple of years. It’s a little ironic, actually: that is where I first started doing all three sports seperately and then put them together into triathlon. But the training from within Houston was pretty bad. One decent place to run and you have to drive quite a ways just to get on your bike. Don’t know about Corpus (but there’s great windsurfing there!). I imagine there will be better training areas, but yeah - it’s pretty freaking hot. I got heat stroke doing the “Shiner Bash” one year and it wasn’t peak summer yet. Even had to pass on the beer when I got to Shiner!

But then again, I grew up in, and moved back to, Canada. So maybe it’s just not in my blood.

hey there - I am from there (and headed back for xmas tomorrow).

yeah, it is hot

yeah it is windy

but you do get used to it and adapt.

before I moved here (UT) I was in dallas and the 7 days before I moved it was over 105 and 80% the entire week… but still did 60+ mile training rides that week.

take it easy and drink lots…stop by bay area schwinn and introduce yourself to tom neagle (nay glee) and he can point you in the right direction…

lots of good riding in the country and go up to the lake is great too…there are regular group rides etc.

PM me if you want more info…
