Guessing my bike size to buy online

So I wanted to buy a bike new, but it looks like I may be forced to purchase one online due to saving money.

I’m 5’7.5’', and I think I have a slightly longer torso proportionally. I am going to have the bike professionally fit, but I’m just wondering what size bike I should get to begin with.

Tom, your advice will probably be best =)

edit: this is going to be a tri-bike. most likely cervelo P2k or Dual. Also, its going to be for an ironman…

What kind of bike? Tri or road? Make? Model?

Read this article. It might help.

You aren’t going to save much money if you go to get fit and they tell you the frame size you bought is wrong. Also, if you have to replace stuff like seatposts, stems, cranks, etc it gets expensive as well.

Get a pro fit! Some places will do it as part of the purchase. The max it will cost is 150-200 bucks. Money well spent because (forgive my presumption) you have no idea where to position your seat, what angle and length stem to use, how many mm of spacers to use, etc. There’s more to it than frame size. Haven’t you read all the classifieds of people who bought a bike online then realized it did not fit them?

Even if you are talking about buying a bike on ebay, many good shops will fit you and give you all your measurements and ideal bike geometry so you can make an informed decision.

Can’t spacers, etc be added in by the LBS? Of course the seat position can be…

It seems that the limiting factor is simply the frame size, and most other things can be adjusted by the LBS.

All 3 Sports has a fit form where you take some measurements, send them in, and they can help narrow down the range of frame sizes. Im trying it out so I’ll let you know how it goes.

If you dont know what size bike to get you are better off buying from a good bike shop. An ill fitting bike is very expensive.
