Guelph Lake II

Anyone doing this on Labor Day weekend? It’s in southern Ontario for you 'mercuns.

Gonna be in Ottawa at the Half. :frowning: Can’t believe I will miss you again!
on a sidenote, if you don’t like swimming in green water, the Guelph 2 isn’t a good one for you. We have been there the past 2 weeks and the water has been green, like green green.
Mark

Are you doing the half in Ottawa? I did it last year. Wanted to stick closer to home this year, but I’m not sure what to do. I’ve barely worked out at all since LP. Also, I haven’t done a sprint in about 4 years. Hmmm… Thanks for the warning about the green water. I forgot about that. I did Guelph Lake 1 several years ago and the algae was already sprouting in June!

Make sure you look out for my Clydesdale butt in Ottawa, this will be my second 1/2 (Peterborough was my first) so I’m looking for some improvement.

I hope I don’t get dizzy on the bike loops

Andrew

The loops in Ottawa aren’t as bad as I thought they’d be (I did the 1/2 last year). It’s a well organized race and I think you’ll enjoy it. The only problem is the crowded bike course because of the umpteen races going on at the same time.

My family and I went back to the finish line afterwards to cheer on the final IM finishers. That was fun and I recommend you do it if you’re not too trashed from your race. Even as slow as I am, I was able to go back to the hotel, take a nice long bath, eat dinner and then go back for the finish.

Enjoy!

Oooh, Guelph Lake!

My first Tri was Guelph Lake 1 in 2000. I did GL2 as well to end my first season.

I remember them closing the lake we were supposed to swim in due to bacteria/algae. And moved us to a different lake in the park.

Have fun! I grew up near Guelph and love that area.

I was going to sign up for the Guelph II Oly, but when I checked the website there isn’t an Oly this year. I guess that they were not satisfied with the number of entries in the Guelph II Oly the last two years? I did the Guelph I Oly and the water was the usual for Guelph.

Dave

Thanks Dawn,

I’m doing IMLP next year so I’m trying to get some more long race experience in while I’m motivated.

Good luck at Guelph II if you go.

So, you’re not doing the sprint? I thought it was always just a sprint for II and the Oly was only an option for I. I guess I haven’t been paying attention the last couple of years.

They added an Oly to Guelph II a couple of years ago, but I guess it wasn’t drawing enough entries. Or perhaps they had trouble with the road closure for the longer bike. In the Oly at Guelph I one of the local churches on the bike route had a big breaksfast event during the race, and the traffic jam was pretty bad.

I may still sign up for the sprint as it is a 30 km bike and 7 km run.

Dave

Green? Green is good.

Sh*t brown like when I raced there about a squillion years ago, was bad.

Good luck, just don’t drink the water

Yep, I’ll be there. I hope it starts to warm up.
Good Luck.
