GU Brew

Anyone else trying this yet? It may be just re-branded GU20 for all I know. I have used Accelerade for ever and ran out, thought I would test something else for a while. My main issues with Accel, was if it got warm it was nasty and to be honest, even though I mixed it weak, sometimes the taste was a bit strong especially late into a ride when you’re craving more of a watered down substance than a syrupy drink. I still contend that when VERY cold, it might be the best tasting (and I’m including R4 here) stuff ever. Today I tested GU Brew and wow…I think they really may have nailed the flavor thing. I went back and checked after the ride to see if I mixed it properly. I normally mix stuff weak, but I tested it today at full strength and it was delightful. I thought it was great, no overpowering taste, fine when the bottles were warmed up etc…just overall really impressed. I’m just curious what others are finding.

I’ve been using both and I’m starting to narrow down my nutrition plan for IMAZ, so I actually did an Accelerade vs. Gu Brew test on my ride today. The Gu is so light and easy to drink. It’s got less calories, but I’ve had no problems using it to wash down gels. Getting to 250ish calories per hour this way is easy. Accelerade was great at first and I liked having all my nutrition as liquid. You can put 250 cal in a bottle, but drinking that bottle was a lot harder for me. The sugary taste really wears on me after a while (The mountain berry is almost like a blue pixie stick) and 40 grams of sugar/bottle adds up on long rides.

I’ve been a Gu2O convert since the beginning of the year and was quite disappointed when I heard it was going away. Have some Gu Brew on order.

I prefer Gu2O to anything I have tried thus far, a list that includes Accelerad, Gatorade (regular and endurance), and Heed. 3 scoops of Gu2O + 1 of Carbo Pro for 260 cal/bottle works quite well.

It sounds yummy, I haven’t been able to find it for sale around here yet.

GU Brew is very similar to the GU20 that it has replaced. They did add a small amount of sugar, which is likely to be why you like the flavor so much more. I personally am a huge fan of the 2x sodium in the blueberry pomegranate flavor.
