Growth removed from colon- how long before resuming training?

I had a fairly large, benign growth cauterized in an operation on my colon two days ago. Different medical personnel gave me different timetables as to how long before I could resume training- I heard four days to a week. Anyone have experience with this type of procedure? How long before you were back at it?

I am signed up for the Columbia Triathlon and it would be great to train a bit more before a taper. I DNF’d at St. Anthony’s due to a poorly executed tune up on my bike- the mechanic literally did not tighten the headset enough, so lo and behold I nearly ate it on the first turn over those cobbles. I had test ridden the bike after his tune up, and thought everything was ok- such is life. Thankful nothing broken, bike is okay, but hoping better fortune at Columbia.

Thanks for the input!

I had the same thing done a few years ago and took a week off with a gradual ramp back up. Good luck in your recovery and race.

In my experience, 4 days rest was enough.

If this was done by colonoscopy and no incisions were made on your abdomen then HTFU. No problems with getting back to activity immediately. That is what I tell my patients but of course follow your doctor’s orders.

It was a flex sigmoidoscopy if that makes a difference- they cauterized a growth and put rubber banding around it.

X2.

I’ve ridden my commuter bike away from the hospital numerous times after that procedure - no problem.

if you’re using the word growth to indicate a polyp, you’re probably good to go the next day. i’ve had several polyps removed and i was back at it the very next day. if you find you need a maxipad go to the ER. that being said, if your doctor told you a week, why are you asking an internet forum for advice?
