Well I made it through my first “race” of the year. After a winter/spring full of long slow stuff, I stretched it out at the Grosse Ile Duathlon and felt pretty decent all things considered. ALways good to get a race under your belt. Have any of you been able to track the results yet? I can’t seem to find them anywhere and to be honest, if they’re not on Bikesportmichigan.com or duathlon.com, I won’t know where to look. ANy thoughts? Anyway, good to be out there.
Tom, it was funny, I started the race running right next to you and the next thing I knew, you were 100 yards ahead of me…I was shocked by how FAST you were running. I was pretty much going all out and couldn’t even keep within your wake on the water soaked running path. I decided as you were going away, that I had no choice but to stay within my limitations and just “go” as fast and as comfortably as I could…when I passed you on the way back you seemed to be “hurting” a bit. I always wonder whether or not to “go” with someone else. SOmetimes, it pays off and you end up with what I like to call a “break through” moment…but the down side is, sometimes it doesn’t pay aff and you have a “break down” moment. Anyway, hope my words of encouragement the few times our paths crossed out on the course helped keep your spirits high! (BTW: Thanks for the kind words at the awards presentation…I’ve been racing about 5 years and in the past couple have really started to “break” into the top 20…nice to have the support.)
It was great to see everyone out there this weekend. Fernando- fast per usual. Deigan- obscenely fast on the run and a blast to chat w/ after the race…he is a great champion and truly an easy going/friendly guy. Briggs- all smiles and support each time I passed him…countless other class acts out there cheering the rest of us on as we motored through. Great to be racing again. See you all this summer.
