I recently bought 2 near-complete DA 10s groups. I found a seller online whose prices were 55-60% of catalog. I’ve been wondering ever since: Do I have the good goods, or am I dealing with stuff that “fell of the back of the truck”? How does one tell? If it turns out that this stuff is “seconds” that was to be destroyed, but still made it to the street, is it warrantible? No problems right now, but I’m thimking (inside joke, sorry) down the road.
I know Zipp does NOT warranty Grey/Gray market items. That is the only company I know that explicitly lists that policy, so sorry I’m not more help. But they are a great company with great warranty practices, so I’d venture a guess that they are probably in line with the rest of the industry… I know lots of companies will honor warranties on eBay’ed items sold from one owner to a new legitimate owner, but grey market stuff is much more questionable. Could have been stolen, marked to be destroyed, etc.
What I’ve run across recently with “deals” such that you have found are folks that are buying complete bikes that spec good parts on fairly cheap frames. They then part them out with ebay being the prime selling format. I have no idea on the legality of the practice or the warranty implications, but the parts were basically new, not seconds.
