Hello my SlowTwitching friends…
I’ve been lurking in the shadows for some months now and quickly want to remark on the quality of posts here. You have all been very helpful!
After years of running I am stepping up to this Tri business this weekend in Ann Arbor (Go Blue!) and am wondering how trail-ey this run is going to be? Should I bust out the XC spikes or just some flats?
Other then that I think I’m good to go! Learned to swim fairly proficiently this winter, have my Cervelo Dual set up by the bike Lords at Bike Sport (a la Tom and Mike, thanks guys) and feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!
See you there…
Chris
and for you S.E. Michigan people, WHAT is the story with this heat!!! soak it up…
Can’t comment on the course itself but i will be there as a volunteer, so good luck and great racing. Just realize that by taking this first step you are turning to the Dark side.
I’ve done this race 3X so I feel qualified in commenting…
All the trails are well maintained for the most part. There are some sections with alot of rocks and roots so be careful for the sake of your ankles. The run is about 4 miles worth of trail, with the rest on grass or pavement. Just to make things fun, there is a nice hill into T1 that’s sure to wake your legs up.
I HATE the heat. I had a total meltdown at the dexter-AA run last weekend. Considering last sunday was the hottest day of the year up to that point it hardly seemed fair. No time at all to get acclimated. Seems we’ll have more of the same this sunday.
GO BLUE!
Use a shoe suitable for a difficult training run. The trail in and of itself is good but there are twists and turns and some bastardly hills that seem to go on and on. The problem with a cleated shoe is that the run finishes on a brief, but hot and exposed asphalt road with a somewhat grinding net elevation gain. so you will be on pavement for the last 3/4 mile perhaps.
It is a challenging run, but a very fun one. We’ll be there in force to support the event. I wish you a safe and enjoyable race in advance and thank you for entering.
Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like the back trails at Cranbrook…
