Great-Toe Arthritis - Hallux Insert

My Arthritis has is caused enough pain I had to stop running to ease the pain and swelling. I need to run so, I’m getting started again and am considering a full rigid insert. Does anyone have experience with using a Hallux Trainer insert. My concern is the insert will negate any cushioning offered by my running shoes. Do you place a cushion on top of the Hallux insert to absorb some impact?

I cannot even walk around indoors in bear feet due to pain caused by flexing my great toe.

Any advice on the issue welcome.

Outside of running I only wear Danskos, rocker sole shoes and stiff hiking boots.
