Great swim set

This might have been shown already but here is a great set from Auburn. Little out of my league but some of the fishies on here might enjoy it.

Auburn training session

Auburn’s so hard core. That’s awesome. What a beautiful pool too!

I love the trainers on the side of the pool just standing there… hahaha.

I don’t get it.

Sprinters build up lots of lactic acid by going extremely fast in 100m. Usually you warm-down between all-out efforts to flush the acid from your muscles (sometimes upwards of a mile+ easy cool down for just a 100 sprint in a swim meet). In a set like that, you just stand around for a few minutes between sprints, so your muscles can’t effectively flush the acid, it just builds up and up. The premise is to a) teach your body how to better deal with the lactic acid and b) cause lots of suffering.

The gatorade between sprints is just a nice touch to send you over the edge into puking.

I LOVE IT!!
Reminds me of high school.

We’d do this insane set a couple times a season where the coach would take our race times in the 100 Free and add a couple seconds. For every sprint you had to hit your time. Each lane had three people so you ended up getting a few minutes rest out of the water. If you missed…you re-did it on one minute rest until you hit the time or tossed your lunch.

It was brutal because there was no gatoraid to aid in the puking…so when someone went it was from the work.

I am going to set up a set like this for my masters group!! None of the yellow gatoraid either…it’s either red or purple.

Auburn is so on the snide since losing their coach.

I believe it’s more of the others catching up, than it really is auburn sliding. But to an extent, you’re right. They just grabbed yet another mens NCAA title last week.

Still, with their facilities, talent, and dedication, that would be an Awesome place to swim.

In an aside, a high school latic acid set I’ll never forget, 10x100 on 4 minutes, with the full electronic timing set up. Me and my buddy were pretty compeitive with one-another, and pushed each other hard. For Three Consecutive 100’s we tied each other to the Hundreth. Pretty memorable, started off going 49’s, slipping upward as the set progressed.

So sad to hear about Richard Quick though. Apparently he didn’t feel well enough to make the trip to Texas with his team for NCAAs.

Losing Marsh hurt (a big middle finger to AU’s AD Jay Jacobs), but the mens team did just win another NC.

The trainers are hilarious.

My former Masters coach sent that to me. I’m quite relieved he didn’t pull that on us. I would have lasted one Gatorade.

Yeah, that one just doesn’t interest me.
