Great Swim link and funny story

Rich Straus has a great sequence of pics of Ian Thorpes swim stroke on his webpage:

I liked this so much I made it my screen saver on my computer to remind me of swim mechanics.

One of my co-workers noticed it and we stated talking about it. I was telling her about how great his swim mechanics are and how I should try and emulate certain aspects of it…

Then she interjected with, “you mean you’ve got 17 pictures of a 14 year old boy in a speedo up on your computer?!?”, At that point a Michael Jackson song came on the radio and both started laughing. To make matters worse it was “Beat It”.

Funny moment. To a certain extent I guess you had to be there, but it was too funny not to share.

Good story. I am fascinated by stuff like this and get a kick hearing differing opinions about the same pictures or videos. I’d like to hear observations about these pics from knowledgeable swimmers out there. One thing - when I am told kick from the hip…keep legs straight, I take that advice literally. Thus I have built the mental image of a leg stiff as a board to pattern my kick after.
Obviously this world class swimmer does it differently, albeit with flipper sized feet.
