But I have yet to find that pre-installed. I would keep an eye on Dell. I got my current laptop for just under 500. It is my second Dell in 8 years (grad student to postdoc) and I have no complaints- great computers at a good price from a reliable company. Only caveat is that I got my software from academic licenses, so that may push the price tag higher for you. Good luck.
I’ve had good luck with laptops around this price point:
Toshiba and Asus are very good, my Acer’s are also running great
Sorry to hear about your profession. My wife is also a teacher and took a big cut in pay and had her work load increased - comes home dead every day.
Thanks I feel terrible for your wife. Sorry to hear that. Whereare lo cated?

I’ll second that. I got a $300 Acer a while back for my kids and it has been one of the most reliable computers I have owned. Get a cheap one like that and an external harddrive. Then just replace it every 2-4 years. You will save a lot of money this way over the long run. Computers are not durable goods.
Dell inspironM5010 . Nice big screen and plenty of power to work with. You can get them on refurb sites. I also recommend the Hp Probook 4525s it’s my work computer and has never given me issues. Whatever you buy save yourself a headache and strip it of all pre installed bs software and it’ll run faster for longer. If you haven’t already buy a secondary hardrive to keep it from getting clogged with music/photos/videos. It’ll also allow you to have a second place for all your files if your computer is stolen (assuming you leave the external at home).
