Raced in the Pocomoke YMCA tri last weekend and found one of the best small sized races around. The entire event had a “old school” feel to it. I signed up race day (how often can you do that) and the rd allowed the race to exceed the cap of 200 (ended up around 240). Entry was $50. Even with the 60 or so race day sign up’s the race went off right on time. The .4 mile swim was in a lake on YMCA owned land. Crystal clear water and one of the cleanest bodies of water I have ever swam in. A short run on grass to T-1 which was on a soccer field. The bike was a 14.5 mile flat loop, windy and very typical of the eastern shore. Open to traffic but the police did a great job at the intersections (about three) and waved me right through. Not much traffic on farm roads early Saturday anyway. Out and back 3.5 mile run mostly pavement but about 400m of grass on the way out and at the finish. Post race food was Subway and there was plenty to go around and a nice picnic area near the finish. Access to the showers in the YMCA after the race, which is a big deal when you have a 4 hour drive home. A few little things need to be changed which I am e-mailing the rd about (he really wanted feed back on the race so he can make it even better next year). Most people racing were using it as a workout the week before Eagleman or were first timers.
