Great Bike Dismount Photos

Wasn’t sure if this has been done before, but I was inspired by this photo on xtri.com

I don’t know which looks better, Bjorn doing a ‘flyin dutchman’ dismount with a Baryshnikov leg extension or the gum falling out of the girls mouth watchin him.

I’m sure we can find some exciting photos in this category.

Wow! That is a cool photo.

Too bad Bjorn had to haul the extra weight of that waterbottle full of puky bile around the course – he might have put another two minutes into the bike field without it.

yea, seriously, what is that in his water bottle coke mixed with chocolate milk…weird.

What’s up with those crazy aerobars? Ones pointing up and one’s pointing down and the shifters are all cockeyed.

It’s brandy, vodka and coke… Seriously it’s just regular coke that I guess foams a bit when it sits in a bottle during a bike ride.

It’s to hold the hands together which seems to work well for me aerodynamically.

that is funny (and somewhat familiar)…

I have one extension that I hold with my wrists (that is UCI compliant in length)…

hmmmm…

I have Strauss’ Blue Danube waltz repeatedly jumping into my head looking at that picture

When are you going to try cyclocross???

Too bad more people cant learn to do that. I worked the mount/dismount line at a race a few weeks back, and was amazed at the number of people who had their shoes clipped in but at the start stood still, straddled the bike put their feet on top of their shoes then took of and put their feet in later. Same at the dismount come to a stop straddle the bike with feet already out of the shoe and then swing a leg over.

I have a different technique, but I think it’s just as fast. I bring my leg over the top tube on the way in.

That’s the way I do it…

One caveat…I used to do my dismount like ETN79…BUT after my shoe once decided to unclip while I had all my weight on it…OUCH! Bloody knees, Bloody toes and a bruised ego. My Speedplays are just not tight enough to “depend” on holding all my weight. I maybe lose 3 seconds waiting to swing my leg over until after the rides comes to a complete stop. I have yet to loose an AG spot by 3 seconds.

I watched the pros dismount during the Timberman sprint on Saturday and was mighty impressed by their smooth speed. I gave it a couple of practice runs on Saturday afternoon, then voila! I pulled off a beautiful high-speed dismount on Sunday. Carrying that speed down the chute to T2 made for a quick transition; I’ll be doing more of these…

This is actually a standard cyclocross dismount.

It’s brandy, vodka and coke…

Thanks, Bjorn.

Ya know? I gotta try that. I think I’ll give it a shot as a recovery drink after my pitifully slow ride today.

Thus begging the question, how many of us do a 'cross-type mount to start the bike? I tried it at a sprint a few months ago, and it was way fun…however, I do wonder about if my tri bike can take that kind of thing…

Cool photo - but I can’t but notice your right 2nd brachymetatarsia and early hallux valgus deformity - yes, I’m in taper mode sitting in the Galt House Hotel for IM Lou …

Or - you have a mild bunion and really funky short 2nd toe!

I do the exact same thing. Works for me.

Uh, thanks for pointing that out because it nows gives me the creepies.
