Greasing cable and brake housing before installing it

Do you folks do that? I am about to build up a new P3 frame and was wondering if you use something to prevent the housing from fusing with the inner channels over time.

I don’t do it with new cables and housing.

I use Shimano SP41 housing and I don’t grease it.

Nope, never done that. And, I have had a couple bikes that sat ~20 years without use and no issues. They are both still working perfectly on their geriatric cables.

Don’t grease cables. It will result in poor shift performance as the grease actually adds force that needs overcome. This is especially true when cold.

Further, cables are stainless steel. So they don’t rust/corrode.

Definitely not grease… Unllike other folks, I do lube my cables, I use Rock and Roll Cable Magic and it seems to make for very low friction shifting and braking.

I was talking about greasing the outside of the housing, not the cables.

While I don’t do it, I’m pretty sure shimano has grease for their brand of cables. There was someone talking about it a week or so ago and it works well for his jobs. (Lyrd or something like that?)

Yeah that’s right - search my posts, I was involved on the thread
