After doing some adjustments on a P2C, I need to re-install the seat post. I realize that there is some controversy regarding using grease on carbon posts, but I want to avoid having it seize up and I believe that this is safe and will help free it up if I ever need to adjust it again.
Can I use typical bearing grease for this purpose?
You can, but grease is meant to allow things to slip. Carbon paste is meant for carbon and is meant to stop stuff from slipping. Any decent bike shop should have it.
I wouldn’t use grease, use carbon paste instead: it won’t seize, but is gritty and so gives a better grip for a given bolt torque. Available from your LBS.
Cervelo recommends Tacx carbon assembly paste. Ask your lbs for a dab of that paste. It’s pink. It’s also rebranded as Ritchey liquid torque… if they’re a Felt dealer they should have a bunch of single serve packets of those.
edit: Also, pro-tip, both screws should be tightened evenly, but the left screw takes “priority”. The left side of the binder is the one that has the “teeth” which digs into your seatpost and holds it.
Any concerns relating to putting the bike on a repair stand? I’ve been told that the seat post is the way to go? If clamped correctly, are there any potential problems there?
Use any carbon assembly paste. I would think that toothpaste would work but might harden like a cement, not that it would matter too much. Don’t use grease as this will allow your seat post to slide down and you might have to over torque to get it to stay still.
