Gravel bike for PMC, bad idea?

I dont know jack about the PMC… but after looking at the website , yeah it’s not a “race”… so yeah ride what you like and what is comfortable.

I’ve never done the PMC but I live in MA and am of course really familiar with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring any sort of bike, I’m sure there’s a mix of serious roadies with the fancy bikes and more casual people with various other types of bikes.

If I show up with the gravel bike, with slick road tires but obviously a little wider, am I going to stick out and look stupid?

  1. You’re going to a charity ride. No bicycle (or tricycle or unicycle) is too ridiculous for a charity ride. If you did the route on a penny-farthing, people would think you’re awesome.

  2. A gravel bike with 28mm slicks is a road bike.

I’ve been doing the PMC for a long time now and you can ride whatever bike you want. There are people on top shelf superbikes and people on yard sale specials, and everything in between. Ride it as fast or as slow as you want, on any bike you want, but take time to enjoy the event. It’s very impressive for what it accomplishes and how well run it is.

I can’t imagine that would be a problem in any way, shape, or form.

It’s a huge, casual, group ride w/ tons of support and rest stops.

Ride what makes you happy!
You’re raising $ for a good cause, nobody’s gonna care what you’re on.
