Anyone using GPS to track run distance. I just have to know how far I’m running so I’ve always run a few different courses that I’ve measured either by bike or car. I’d like to venture into trails etc for some variety.
I track distance, time, pace etc in my log and I’ve never liked running by time time alone.
I use the Garmin Forerunner 201. I really like it. I had the Timex S+D and the Garmin is much better. I use it for all my runs and for my races too. I really like that it automatically records my mile splits. After a race I like to review these stats to see where I was running my best. There are many other cool features and there have been several past threads discussing them. Definitely worth the money.
As with most GPS devices, it must be able to see the satellites to work properly. Running in dense wooded areas could affect how well it works. I run on trails, but they are not totally wooded and it works very well.
just watch out on the trails, the gps cuts out quite a bit with lots of tree cover. if you’re not in a rush you might want to wait a month as the new Timex units are coming out and the reciever is even smaller.
