GPS / pedometer?

Any recommendations GPS &/or pedometers? I’m looking at the Garmin, Timex Bodylink, etc?

Anybody use, like, or don’t like these or others?

Love the Garmin 301. Easy to use due to its well thought-out menu selection. I live in North Carolina and have only had a few times while running on trails in the summer time with full foliage cover that I got a weak gps signal. Other than that, it has been dead on accurate. Even used it in races with the multi sport option. Nice feature is that you can download to motion base and see the race course/training run on a topo map. It allows you to see your speed, heart rate, elevation, pace, etc. Truly a nice training aid.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the Garmin.

This is what somebody else wrote about it: I just bought a Garmin 301 and have been using it for a couple of weeks now.

-) Unless you have a good line of sight with the satellites, the real time pacing is VERY inconsistent. When I’m on the running path, the trees make the real time pace pretty unreliable. However, when I’m running in Buffalo Grove after a bike ride, the pace seems pretty steady b/c the trail has very little tree cover.

I’ve finally learned to use the “lap pace” instead when I run. This gives you the pace for each lap instead of real time. The downside is that the lap pace takes a little while to catch up, so any intervals under a few minutes will be iffy.

-) The distance seems to be accurate. Despite the pacing inconsistencies, I haven’t had issues with distance. It seems to be pretty steady.

-) the software is OK. It has some really nice features, like being able to program in complex interval sessions, and a multisport mode where you can simply hit the lap button to switch between bike/run mode. But I find it’s hard to get all the key variables to show at the same time. For example, when doing an interval session, you can’t see the “Total Time”, you can only see the lap time.

I’m still learning to use it, but so far, despite it’s idiosyncracies, I like it.
