“My colleagues and I are sending a letter to Liddy informing him that he can go right ahead and tell the employees that are scheduled to get bonuses that they should voluntarily return them,” Sen. Charles Schumer said on the Senate floor. “Because if they don’t, we plan to tax virtually all of … so it is returned to its rightful owners, the taxpayers.”
Regardless of your belief on the bonus(s), this seems WAY over the line to even say, not to mention do.
“We have a right to tax,” the Connecticut Democrat told CNN. “You could write a tax provision that’s narrowly crafted only to the people receiving bonuses.”
Sure you have the right to “Tax” but do you have the right to target individuals for tax? Is it legal to say “The cycling Lizard has to pay 100% tax on anything he makes over 20$”?
What’s kind of funny is that aren’t the people getting the bonuses tax payers? If so if the bonuses are paid isn’t the money where it belongs…in the hands of the taxpayers? Taxing it would actually take it OUT of the hands of the taxpayers and put it in the hands of the government.

In that case, this taxpayer wants a million dollar bonus too.
These politicians are asking the wrong questions and looking in the wrong place for answers. They need to ask who on the govt side crafted these bailout deals? Look in the mirror…

Nope, this is a PR problem for the Whitehouse and our congress, therefore the right question is; "How did this information get out to the general population, and how can we prevent this kind of thing from happening again?"
I have to say that I’m reassured that you guys are now all concerned about how these bailout monies are being spent, for a while there after Bush gave the banks $400 billion no strings attached, you were all very quiet and that made me nervous. I was beginning to believe you were no longer the careful watchful stewards of the taxpayers’ money that you make yourselves out to be.
for a while there after Bush gave the banks $400 billion no strings attached,
Really!?!? So there was no involvement by the majority Dem Congress? Lucky the Dems don’t have to worry about any bad decisions there, it was all the President’s fault. Is that the approach you want to go with?
Correct. It was a Bush/Bernanke play. Congress had no power or say in how the money was distributed. Bush gave it away no strings attached. Now that Obama is distributing money with strings and conditions on how its spent and who it helps you’re all up in arms.

I bet the lawyers (and most of Washington is lawyers) are very happy. If I had a contract to get a bonus, and didnt get it - sure as fuck I would sue. Ignorant libs just cant seem to grasp the whole “Contract” thing…then again, most minimum wage, undereducated workers (typical democrats) have no idea what a contract even is…that is when you are going to kill someone right?
