Gotta buy a new helmet

My old Troxel helmet has served me well but it’s old and beat up and a hot new helmet would look awfully good with my hot new Felt s22 (2003). I bought a Giro Eclipse but the retention system got on my nerves so it’s my girfriends helmet now. Anybody just love their helmet? I’m more concerned with comfort than style and I liked the low profile of the Troxel. I’m thinking maybe Limar or Louis Garneau.

I know the thing to do is hit the LBS and try a bunch on but the Eclipse felt fine in the shop, wasn’t till 20 miles into a few rides that I really decided I didn’t like it. So, I’d be interested to hear your user reviews.

thanks,

SM

I’m on my second limar F107. The first served me rather well when I crashed. it was missing a big chunk. The team I was on was sponsored by Limar about 3 years ago and through out the years there has been 5 crashes, 5 damaged helmets, 5 non damaged heads, 5 helmets replaced no hassles.
I’ve had a couple of specialized that I couldn’t get to fit just right and a Giro something or other that I liked.

Like skid marks, I tried on lots of helmets in the shop and went with the most comfortable. It wasn’t until a long while later that I started doing rides of more than 20 miles that I found out that after 45 minutes the damn thing is uncomfortable. Gives me a real headache and hot spots.

Don’t know how to get around this, but I will say, don’t buy the smallest, make sure that if you need a small, get a helmet that is just a little bigger than you need and get it fitting well with the padding. I went with the smallest, as it fitted really well with minimal padding, This was probably my downfall, and my next helmet will be larger allowing more fitting options. You can always remove a little padding later, but cutting the polystyrene is not a good option.

Cheers,

J.
