The ordered it on Thursday, and the good folks at zipp had it at my door this morning. Of course, it helps that I live less than 2 hours from their offices.
It feels…well…not as I expected. I expected the disc to be this stout piece of engineering. Instead it feels like I could punch my hand through it, kind of like re-enforced cardboard. And the insides look like they will absorb water. Is this normal? This is the first disc I have ever handled. How is it going to support my weight, and have a 150 psi tire glued to it??
You could lay that disc on the ground and jump on it (don’t really do it!) and probably not break it! I have owned several over the years and never had a problem.
Note, I do tape the valve hole if riding in the rain to keep H2O out.
Don’t worry about it supporting your weight…that will not be a problem. I think you now own the very best wheel on the market >> Go Fast!!
Yeah…I don’t think I’ll do the jumping up and down on it. But of course it’s solid as a rock, I know it is. I was just taken back at how it feels to the touch. I can’t wait to ride it.
It has a nomex core, so theoretically it won’t absorb water (renn discs don’t), but if you don’t put tape over that valve hole I’m going to mail you a kick in the pants.

When I go my disc I had the same thoughts. It feels fast doesn’t it?
Where do you live I am a little outside of Indy as well. As a matter of fact I call on them for business reasons, great people.
