Little known fact: The SavageMan Triathlon is produced by the Joanna M Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, and all proceeds benefit that organization. It is a legitimate non-profit, charity race and even the (majority of ) registration fee is a tax-deductible donation. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for the cause but are not required to.
Team Z has organized a raffle of bikes and gear worth over $16,000, including a Cervelo S3 with SRAM Red, as a means to raise money for the Melanoma Foundation. To date, the raffle has raised about $18K in ticket purchases, so the odds of winning something in the raffle are about even money.
