Gordo: What are you riging these days

We have all seen Gordo on all kinds of rides over the years. Does any one else wonder what he is going to show up with to start the year?

So whats your poison this year?

Word on the street is that he will turn up on a 25yr old Raleigh 20, with Dunlop heavy duty tires, ape hangar bars with ribbons out of the end, and a chopper guard flag on the back (Maple Leaf insignia attached).

And if you think I’m joking, then you clearly don’t know enough Kiwis, for we are very serious people.

Yes indeed.

You forgot about the hockey stick attached to the top tube with black electrical tape as well as the CCM HELMUT !

i was talking to this guy yesterday who did a 5.55 IM bike split on a 45 pound cruiser!

Trek TTT, 9sp d/a with ultegra bb, 3T bio arms, SRM pro on the right (d/a on the left – BTW never run the SRM left), 175 cranks, bontrager disc, h3 front, look carbon pedals, sidi ergo shoes, black cleats, garneau helmet (but might change for IMC as some new ones look lower profile and my head position is a bit high).

Bottle cage on seat tube – experimenting with a profile on the front but can’t get it working with my SRM display – bought a tacx (sp?) behind the seat bottle mount as it looks a bit better than my minoura.

In the allied tunnel with Mister Willett, Mister A and Miss M on March 16th – will report to my board about the results. Hoping to discover some upside – the difference between 1st and 2nd at IMC would pay for the visit.

Gearing – 55/39 – 11-23 cassette – however, I swap the 13 for the 16 – 11/12/14/15/16/17/19/21/23 – I use the 16 a lot when TTing. With the 55/19, I can big ring short rollers, saving shifting. I’ve got the 39 on there because when I want an easier gear for training (or racing) I want a really easier gear.

Aside from the Hed3 (thanks Anne) I paid retail for that entire list of gear – it’s my personal view of the best (sexiest?) ride that I could have for IM.

Time to ride,

g

whoa, whoa, whoa… what do you mean, “never run the SRM left”??? I just bought one for myself. Is there something wrong with the design of their left crank?

I knew I should have bought the dura ace version… sigh

Kick some ass next week, Gordo, I’m rooting for you. I hope you and Cameron have a great battle. I’ve been reading and re-reading your recent interview on beginnertriathlete.com. Some of your advice really hit home for an age-grouper with big aspirations such as myself.

Kick some ass!

Trek TTT, 9sp d/a with ultegra bb, …

blah, blah, blah…

You’re still going to ride 4:45 (or a few minutes less)

This is not the jogging club. It’s a race.

Cheers and go get 'em.

Never run the left – it was a tip from a pro roadie pal of mine. There’s nothing wrong with the left, just more street-cred (I’m told) from leaving the d/a in place.

FWIW – you can run the “old” SRM with 10sp – just put the 10sp chain rings onto the 9sp cranks. My guy’s been doing it for a while.

G,

9-speed! Will you get with the times, man. You know you may have a tough time passing the bike check with that!!!

Sexy ride! Good luck!

BTW-liked the latest interviews in xtri and beginner triathlete (?).
