GOP wins House seat in Obama's home district

Hmmmmm,Doesn’t look like he is batting 1000 anymore!

60% of the district voted Democrat. The GOP spent a lot of money for him to pretend to be a big boy until November. Do they have those Super 8 motels with the kithenettes in DC?

If you’d like to put money on the regular election in November, I’m up for it. The two Democrats in the special election outdrew the lone Republican.

Most of the pundits predicted an R victory. They also predict a D will take it back in November. As mentioned, there were two D’s running and they got well over a majority of the vote.

Still, Rs increased their vote percentage from the 2008 election to 40% from 17%. Hanabusa is a favorite of the party machine there, and Inouye loves her. Case is considered* persona non grata *by Inouye for running against Akaka for his Senate seat in 2006, and the rift between Hanabusa – who’s more liberal – and Case shows no signs of healing anytime soon. Djou is attractive as a conciliator and he and his family are “all-American” in looks:

Punahou grad (same elite high school Obama graduated from), Ivy League grad (same as Obama), Army Reservist (Obama never served) who enlisted after 9/11, attorney, Honolulu councilman and well-liked in the community. Plus, the power of the incumbency there is palpable. And Colleen Hanabusa isn’t as well-liked as mainlanders think she is. It’ll probably be the case that Djou won’t prevail in November, but it isn’t as in-the-bag as it once was, either.
