As a University of California (Berkeley) staff member I can also say this is a sad day for the UC system as well. I’m not gonna get up on the soap box about the erosion of the once vaunted UC system due to politics and “rising costs” but it seems we are increasingly having a hard time keeping the best and brightest without major infusions of private donations.
I fully expect to be working for the Bechtel University of California at Berkeley within the decade. Or make that Bayer, or Genentech, or…
