Hey I am interested in hearing what you guys think are good places to live in Austin. I would like to get a house that is in the $400K range. It seems Austin is pretty big, so I am not exactly sure what the best places to live are for of course running, cycling and swimming. Right now I live in an area where I can run and bike from my house. I wouldn’t mind having the same situation there if possible. I hear the Barton Springs is pretty sweet, so maybe being near there would be a plus.
I am a big trail runner, so having some soft trails near home is a plus.
Near town lake would be a good place to look,
Around the South Congress area is a good place to live, access to the scene, close to town lake trail (10 mile trail loop with shorter options) and right next to the tri shops so you can join their weekly rides (the ATC ride is a dream) to check out where to ride.
The neighbour hood is incredibly eclectic, you have your extremely beautiful architect designed housing right next to a 1940’s house that hasn’t been touched in 30 years.
Also there is west of mopac, east of 360 and south of 2222, That whole area is very pretty and easily accessible to trails and bike lanes all over that area.
These are, IMO, some of the nicer places to live which are very close to the city.
… that’s where I lived and I loved it.
As usual the answer is… it depends. size of home? Kids, schools, commute, night life access, all in addition for the need to fullfill the immediate_ need of swim/bike/run. Trail runner? Barton Hills neighbourhood would be right up your alley. Close to everything and nice homes and a great community.
sniff my old home. HA! No complaints tho… living in “mecca” ain’t too bad
Depending on what you’re looking for…we live in Lost Creek, just west of 360/Bee Caves Road. 6 mins to downtown/town lake/barton springs…Its’ an older neighborhood, which I like. Prices are really creeping up there, though. Inside 360, which is about 300 yds away, prices go waaayyyy up. Barton Hills is nice, but pricey, I think.
Oh, forgot to mention, we LOVE Lost Creek. We looked at some of the other places, but couldn’t afford them. It’s tough to find things within the loop for under $500K, in my experience…It’s only going up, too…
