Good news for Lions Fans

Lions Fans,

For the first time in several years the Lions have made through the mini camps without any of the players complaining about practices that are too hard. In the past years there were some guys who were anonymously turning the Lions in for practices that were too intense, then the Lions would get their wrists slapped and lose a week of summer workouts. This is going on down in Oakland right now.

This means 1 of 2 things, either there is a tougher and more committed group of players up here, or the coaches have watered down the summer workouts so much there was no need to complain. As I see it, you never heard about these kinds of problems coming out of Indianapolis or New England, so anything you can to do to become more like them has to be a good thing, right?

In other news on the Lions front, RB Kevin Jones is listed as undervalued by FOX sports in the Fantasy Draft. This is confusing to me since it still doesn’t seem clear to me that he will even be recovered from his foot injury. Either way, I still don’t know whether that is good news or bad news. He has always bee a question mark in my book.

i had no idea there were actually still “lions fans”
.

Most of them are “in the closet,” but there are several of us who proudly fly the colors of the Honolulu Blue and Silver. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, if the Lions can ever put together a season where they win more than 10 games, there won’t be any talk about “Tiger Town” or “Hockey Town.” Very little stirs the passions of Detroit more than the Lions.

Judging from the title, I thought this was going to be an announcement that the team had been disbanded.

Nevermind.

Ouch.

Based on this news, it looks like the Lions have a pretty good chance of being undefeated after Week 1. After week 2, they’ll be at .500 though.

Their season opener is against the Raiders.

Just the title of the thread alone made me laugh.

I think I mioght put money on the Raiders. It is unfortunate but the Lions are even more dismal on the road, and particularly bad on the West Coast.

Do I amuse you? It really wasn’t meant to be funny. Okay, yeah it was.

It’s good that the practices aren’t too hard. I mean who wants to work hard in football. They should make them a lot easier and then the Lions might win a game.

That is why I am not sure if it is good news or not. The last few years some players have complained that the summer practices were too intense. These were anonymous complaints from certain players.

So, either the players are more committed to toughness (they got rid of the p------), or the Lions coaching staff made the practices less intense. Obviously one seems better than the other for a fotball team.

I reamain optimistic because you never hear about this problem with the highly respected teams. This year Oakland got dinged. Interestingly, I think the Lions sent a player or two that way, HMMMM.

There is an underground movement that would like to see this.

There is an underground movement that would like to see this.

I have it on good authority that the underground movement is comprised of the population of the territory commonly known as the state of Michigan.

My condolences to any die hard Lions fans out there. It is so much easier to write about this sort of stuff when you don’t have a favorite team to worry about.

I’m calling you on this. The State of Michigan has 2 peninsulas, the Upper of which is predominantly Green Bay country.

I have heard that the Lions organization is messed up because of the Ford’s ownership. The thought is that if they would sell the franchise, it would improve. But as I understand it, from VERY reliable inside sources, the Ford’s have a very laissez-faire style of ownership. Maybe that is the problem. The people they put in charge are inept. The most recent case is Matt Millen.

It is painful to watch, season after season.

Bernie

I’m calling you on this.

That, sir, would be an excellent call, as I have no clue as to what is going on with just about all the major sports franchises, and thus, my general apathy and indifference to the various states of woe in which the true die hard fan bases find themselves in.

About the only professional sport individual that I get excited about is Tiger Woods as he is such an amazing competitor. Even there, I have had a moment of doubt, as he looked awfully ordinary at the U.S. Open a week ago, not making any of the significant opportunities he had to take the lead, or any unbelievable shots to stun the crowd and the competition. Ah, well and so it goes.

Oh, and my condolences to your faithfulness to the Lions. Then again, if you can’t realize the situation for what it is when they had an Irish quarterback, just whose fault is that any way? (And for the record, I am mostly Irish.)

Da Bears.

The people they put in charge are inept.

Are you sure that “inept” is a strong enough word? Honestly, I have never seen one person in charge of so many failure retain his job for this long. It’s almost sabotage.

… and to think that you guys used to complain about Wayne Fontes anually. =)

**… and to think that you guys used to complain about Wayne Fontes anually. =) **

You know, sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got 'til its gone. Thanks for the memory.

Hey, the man did lead the Lions to a single playoff win after all.

And his record over the last 5 games of each season where his job was on the line has to be like 34-1!

This year’s going to be different, I mean Kitna has already said the Lions will win at least 10 games, and now Furrey says they’ll win between 10-12 … It’s pretty much a playoff lock.
