Good frame for $1,500, possible?

Is it possible to find a good frame for $1,500? I really really want a P3C but I know that is a little over my budget, ($3,299 and 2k for the P2). What about other frames, Argon, Kuota, Felt?

Thanks for the help!

If you keep an eye on www.bonktown.com, you can pick up 2008 QR carbon tri bikes for like $1800 complete.

#1 - most people cant ride a P3C at any price, sure every man wants a Ferrari - but not so many can drive one (properly).
#2 - are you looking for a frameset only?
#3 - look VERY hard at the PlanetX Carbon Stealth Pro (sub $1000), the Blue, and you can even check eBay for Motobecane, Basso, and other former Italian “brand” frames that are now owned by a company from the east who brands nice enough frames with names from late 70’s early 80’s high end euro names.

Here you go. Actually I was suprised to see this frame available…I just built one with all campy c-record and era specific parts…And yes I am racing it this year. I will be posting pics in a few days.

Of course

Hell I got a good BIKE for $1,300

If you have to have a carbon fiber bike, you might have to look for a used P2C or Trek TTX or Specialized

But if you don’t mind aluminum, the P1 is a great frame. A used P3 aluminum frame is even better.

Delta’s?

Yep. Got an original picture of one I followed. Complete C-record build except headset. It had a 105 and the fork had been cut so the campy would not fit. I was bummed it was like butter. I will be posting pics in a few days. An Ambosia new tubie fr rim (650, 36h) laced radially. TTT moser 51.151 bars (have cinelli 84’s but wanted to keep original). A IKO aramid disc. Tires are brand new era vintage Woblers. Turbo seat, aocet tubie bag, original cage and bottle. Its been fun. Even have the gear to match, Oakley Pilots, 80’s Cinelli aero helmet and more. I am showing up at my first local race asking if it the Coor’s classic and if anyone has seen Phinney, or Carpenter

If you like/want to get low, Bike radar reviewed this frame (i.e. short head tube) and it retails for only 699 quid or ~ $1,020 USD. Their favorable review is here: http://www.bikeradar.com/...uct/f1-zero-tt-28277

Their website is here: http://www.dalkiia.com/

I am very, very tempted by buy this frame. I’m currently looking for a 57cm frame with a short head tube and this one certainly fits the bill.

Dave in VA

Hopefully posting pics tomorrow. Having a little trouble running the brake cables to the hoods, also found I need a 3.5mm allen for the brakes. Put glue on the rims already, will mount today. Have a pair of clinchers for training. Goal is to be able to ride on the rollers two hours, before I ride around anyone.

The Planet X frames are only sold from their Websites?

If you can do use—there are a lot of good buys on titanium framsets out there. Check ebay for 2005 and newer Litespeed Blades and Sabers, or the QR Ti-Phoons. All great bikes. Not sure I would recommend buying used carbon framesets–although I have done it in the past.

Don’t fall into the sticker trap. By that I meant the name on the downtube. Buy the bike that fits you at your price range. Looking cool often does not translate into good results.

There’s a lot of good frames on eBay for less, like the no-name carbon fiber frames, or even this Jamis T2 (I have nothing to do with this frame, I just ride a Jamis). Or try a company like Element 6 or Velo Vie. Or even Leader, perhaps the biggest bang for the littlest buck.

You can get 2006/2007 Kestrel framesets off ebay for $700-900. New, from shops, and with lifetime warranties. I picked up a Talon frameset for 700 and built it up at 15.2 lbs for under 2k. Compare it to the Felt AR (which has a near identical rear end) and you’re getting a steal.

Oh, and Macca used to win IM’s on it before switching to the Airfoil and then Specialized (with most performances under 8:20) so it’s pretty fast.

heck, you can still find 08 P2SLs for under $1500 for a complete bike, frames for under $1K.

they had a QR Lucero frame on Bonktown today for under $1K

I’m glad to see (selfishly) that you have an interest in Planet X. The brand as you know originates out of the U.K. I have recently started distributing the Planet-X brand in the United States along with my brother. Our company, appropriately named Planet-X-USA, has taken over the distribution as of a few weeks ago. Our site, www.planet-x-usa.com will be up and running within a matter of days. However, if you actually want to talk to a human being (this is my favorite part of the business), you can call us at 330-714-1144 or 877-4-TRIGEAR. We will be happy to help you, and have a GREAT stock of the Planet X Stealth framesets in all sorts of colors and sizes FOR ONLY $899!!! We only charge $25 shipping, so we could almost put you into the frameset AND a set of our 50mm carbon wheels for the $1,500 you were looking at. I hope to hear from you!!
