Where do Long Island IM triathletes do their long training rides (particularly in Eatern LI)?
I lived about halfway out on the Island and used to ride a lot on South Country Road, also, Montauk Highway is pretty good except you will hit some lights going through the towns of Eastern Long Island. Talk to some local riders, each town has it’s back roads that will let you slip behind the town to miss the lights and then get back on Montauk Highway.
How far east are you? Past the end of the LIE???
the new york cycling club (nycc.org) has an extensive ride library that includes routes on eli.
Yeah, past the LIE. I know alot of folks ride the the LIE service road but I was wondering if there are some other good routes from around Central Islip, where I may be working, and eastward (north shore or south shore). Any suggestions?
If I’m coming out of C.Islip, I’d probably head north (5-8 miles) to 25A. At that point, it’s east to Port Jeff. or west to Caumsett, Oyster Bay, etc.
Of course your other option is to go south to 27A and head east, but that’s alot flatter.
